Foreigners staying in the US for more than 30 days must register

                                                           “Thirty Days in America”

Upon disembarking from the plane at JFK, Ravi was enveloped in a surreal experience—skyscrapers soaring into the heavens, yellow taxis darting about like busy bees, and a refreshing breeze carrying a hint of pretzels and ambition. This was his inaugural visit to the United States, where he intended to spend a few weeks reconnecting with friends and discovering the country he had often seen depicted in films.

Time flew by. One museum visit transformed into five. A planned day trip to Boston evolved into a weekend adventure in Chicago. Before he realized it, he had surpassed the 30-day threshold on his calendar.

That was when the email arrived.

**Subject:** *Important Notice for Foreign Visitors Staying More Than 30 Days*

It was from the Department of Homeland Security.

He learned of a regulation he had completely overlooked during his frenzied preparations: *All foreign nationals who remain in the U.S. for over 30 days are required to register with the relevant authorities.*

A wave of anxiety washed over him. Was he facing legal repercussions? Would he incur a fine or, even worse, face deportation?

As he continued reading, he discovered it was not as daunting as he had feared. Registration was merely a routine procedure—a means to maintain accurate records and ensure national security. He simply needed to submit some basic details: his accommodation, intended duration of stay, and a few identification documents.

The following morning, he entered the local registration office—a modest brick structure nestled between a laundromat and a bakery. The clerk, a warm woman with silver-framed glasses, accepted his documents and offered a reassuring smile.

“Just a formality,” she remarked. “This happens frequently. We just like to keep track of those who stay a bit longer than anticipated.”

Ravi nodded, feeling a sense of relief wash over him.

As he exited with the confirmation slip in hand, he came to a realization: America was not merely a land of towering cities and grand aspirations—it was also a place governed by systems, regulations, and, indeed, paperwork. Yet, with a bit of assistance, even a foreigner far from home could carve out a space for themselves within it.
With his registration completed and the path ahead unobstructed, Ravi was prepared to continue his exploration—this time, as an individual officially extending his stay.
