Hamas Declines $2 Billion Proposal, Opts for Combat Instead of Capitulation
Hamas press BriffingIn a decisive and assertive action, the leaders of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas have turned down a significant proposal estimated at $2 billion, which included conditions for a ceasefire, disarmament, and relocation with political asylum for key leaders. Instead, the organization opted to persist in its armed struggle, reaffirming its steadfast dedication to resistance rather than compromise.
As reported by Ynet News, referencing the Qatar-based media outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, this proposal was developed with support from the United States and a notable Gulf nation in the Middle East. The initiative aimed to weaken Hamas's military strength and resolve the ongoing conflict.
The offer was directed specifically at senior figures within Hamas’s military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades, including Muhammad Sinwar—brother of the late Yahya Sinwar and commander of the Rafah Brigade—along with Muhammad Shabanah and Al-Haddad, the commander of the Gaza City Brigade. In return for disarming, these leaders and their families were promised political asylum in various nations and financial compensation amounting to $2 billion.
Nevertheless, Hamas categorically rejected the proposal. The group asserted that accepting financial compensation in exchange for halting resistance would contravene its fundamental principles and betray the Palestinian cause.
Senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya stated:
“We will not accept any partial agreement that serves Israel's interests. We demand a comprehensive deal that includes prisoner exchanges, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the reconstruction of Gaza.”
This resolute position conveys a strong message to both supporters and opponents: Hamas remains unwavering in its commitment to its vision of resistance and liberation, regardless of the incentives presented to retreat.
The narrative underscores the intricate nature of the geopolitical environment in the Middle East, where substantial financial transactions and political influence frequently encounter unwavering ideological opposition. As the conflict persists, the likelihood of achieving a durable resolution remains ambiguous; however, it is evident that Hamas is unwilling to exchange its fight for economic benefits.
